A heating audit brings one major variable into play that is completely outside of your control - outdoor temperature. Even the best sustainability plan related to heating may see an increase in energy use from one year to the next just due to the fact that you may experience a colder winter. There are ways to account for this, allowing you to compare heating costs for two different time periods (even winter to summer) without the outside temperature distorting your numbers (too much!). This is done by using something called degree days. We have developed a package explaining degree days and how they can be used in a heating audit at the link below:
