PROJECT BASED LEARNING
Hands on and one of a kind learning opportunities for your students
We want our programs to go beyond the traditional “teacher talk – student listen” approach to learning – in fact, that’s why The Gaia Project exists.

By giving students a problem to solve, and the tools to solve it, we think that students will receive a much deeper level of understanding, and pick up some other important skills along the way – problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, planning, e.t.c.

So we’ve put together a program to help you implement energy-centric project based learning into your classroom. These are largely cross-curricular, taking in elements of science, construction and economics

The potential projects are seemingly endless, but could include:

  • Energy Audits – using tools and background information that we can help provide, students can find ways to reduce energy use in your school, their homes or other community buildings
  • Energy Efficient Building Design – through building models (from desktop size all the way to full scale), students can investigate the most energy efficient way to design and build homes, offices and other buildings
  • Energy Feasibility Studies – using our Mobile Energy Centre, and locally available data, students can put together designs and proposals on how to supply energy locally in an environmentally responsible manner
  • Biofuel Production – students can produce their own fuels and find out whether or not they really do benefit the environment
  • Energy Generation and Storage – from solar thermal panels, to flywheels

If you’re interested in doing anyone of these projects, or if you have your own ideas and just want a little help, just send us an e-mail. We’ll help you get the resources you need to make your project a success.
