The Mobile Energy Centre houses a single 175W solar photovoltaic panel. This is a SolarWorld SW 175 Mono panel.
It is mounted on a Pelco PT680-24P/PP pan tilt unit, which enables the solar panel to be rotated 355°, and tilted 180° enabling it to be pointed to virtually any point in the sky. This pan tilt unit is actually designed for security camera automation, but found a new use in our Mobile Energy Centre.
Attached to the solar panel is an Apogee CS300 solar radiation sensor (pyranometer). This enables us to measure the solar radiation reaching the surface of the solar panel as the orientation of the panel is changed.
The solar panel is mounted on a custom built telescopic pole that allows the panel to be extended above the trailer for operation, and collapsed inside the trailer for transport.
