We live in a world that is dominated by market forces, and it is ignorant to believe that we can combat climate change by fighting against them.
When it comes down to it, the people who will have the greatest impact on whether we meet our emission reduction objectives are the heavy polluters. We must recognize that these companies will continue to exist in a carbon constrained world, and we must put in place the correct policies and frameworks to allow them to operate profitably and in an environmentally responsible manner. Emitters will not reduce greenhouse gas emissions if it makes them uncompetitive, so we must fix the market so that GHG reductions result in increased competitiveness.
We see climate change as a fundamental market failure where gaseous emissions have been free, and there are simple, proven solutions that we can implement to address this.
